    need zero help

ok so I have an SH-1 Kit and I have never encountered a zero fret before. From research I get conflicting reports on how they are meant to be setup .... by my own reckoning a zero fret should be a little bit higher than the other frets because it acts like a nut and sets the string height above the FB?? My problem is when I string this instrument the strings do not touch the Zero Fret at all they are around 2mm higher. This means that the strings are being tuned from the lock nuts to the bridge not from the zero fret to the bridge which changes the scale length?? I can get near standard tuning but fretting a string puts it out half a tone i.e. low e string at the first fret should be an f but its f#. The higher strings are a bit closer but still way out even allowing for lack of intonation.. I guss that's a long winded way of asking should I try to lower the strings onto the Zero fret by reducing the height of the head-lock nut assembly??

in short, yes, the strings need to touch and pass over the zero fret.

how that is best done in your case, i am not sure, perhaps post up a pic - they can help a lot
