    Arthur Samuel

Just purchased a ES-2V and have sanded and stained it . Sanded it to a silky smooth finish applied the stain and "voila"
glue stains all over. I have read the posts and this seems to be a real problem. The glue looks like it has penetrated right into the veneer. I am now starting again and will try your solution with the wire brush but there is a real risk of cutting through the thin veneer. The other question is about glueing on the neck. What sort of glue, does it need to be clamped.
The video is down on this section. Thanks Arthur.

Hi Arthur, welcome to the forum, thats a real bummer, hope you stopped at one stain coat. Best not use a wire brush on the veneer (too much risk damaging the thin veneer), try some goof off from a hardware
I haven't tried it but think others on the forum have had success with it

can you please post a photo of the glue affected areas so we can see how bad it is ? thanks

welcome Arthur , as for the neck, the best glue is an aliphatic wood glue like Titebond Original.

Thanks for the advice. Used an electric palm sander (I'm a builder) with a fine pad and gently teased out the adhesive on the face veneer .
This solved the problem but not on the sides where the adhesive is deeply embedded along the binding, something i'll just have to wear.

Hey Arthur, glad you got the glue off the cap, using any electric sander on the thin caps is risky but sounds like you have heaps of experience with them. As for glue on the sides I'd try the wire brush and maybe Goof Off to remove it, then get stuck into the sanding. Check by rubbing a damp cloth over the affected areas.

Hi Arthur, welcome to the PBG family.

I have used the Goof Off with some degree of success as sometimes there is just so much more of the glue that only reveals itself once stained. Be careful with the wire brush as it is so easy to end up below sea level chasing away the dreaded glue spots not to mention creating your own unique grain pattern from over use of the brush.

I'm up to the wiring and I am confused by the earth or ground wire to the bridge.
1.There is no access to the bridge-no holes drilled.
2.why does the bridge need to be earthed when an earth wire runs around all the other components?
    Thanks Arthur

The bridge/tailpiece ground connection allows the strings to be grounded. Is your ES-2V a stop tail or trapeze?

If it's a stop tail hopefully there'll be a hole for the ground wire in the post hole like this (image is for a bridge post rather than stop tail):

If not, then you may need to drill one. If it's a trapeze tail you're using then you'll probably have to drill a ground hole under the tail plate. In both cases ask for advice before attempting to drill.
    Scott.
