    First time builder post

    Hey guys.
    Just started my first build,
I have only really pulled guitars apart and reassembled so I wanted to get into the hobby a bit more before I attempt building a guitar from scratch.
So I just recieved my pitbull strat, went with the ash body with a reversed headstock.
Just wondering in regards to the timber, does ash need pore filling?
And if so, should I be sealing the timber at all before I start sanding?
Anyway I will start my build diary and keep it up to date hopefully I get through this build alright!
    Thanks guys

Good luck mate. I've only re-done guitars myself. We'll both be doing a lot of learning.

Welcome to the forum Stevoski. Great kit STA-1R to start on. Are you staining or painting the guitar? No real need for sanding sealer but worth getting some timbermate grain filler. If you really want to pop the grain I recommend ebony timbermate. Good luck with the build

    Welcome Steve,
On my first build (solid colour) I didn't grain fill, I think I ended up putting about 12 coats of primer (sanding in between) on to get it smooth. Next one I grain filled with Timbermate and only needed 3 coats of primer. Less sanding and less paint used, yup I'll be grain filling in future!

Welcome to the forum. A great kit to start on and you've got to love a reverse headstock! Yes, recommended grain filler especially the ebony timbermate as mentioned by Wokks if your looking to really accentuate the grain if staining or to smooth out the body if painting (using a closer matching grain filler) . I've used sanding sealer on a previous build but it didn't really help the cause

    Welcome Stevoski.

All good advice given so far. Only finished one body in Ash and also used ebony timbermate, and yes there are many pores to fill but it is worth the effort as the grain filling effect can be quite stunning.
