PBG Capicitor & Resistor Fidelity Upgrade done on my Yamaha Pacifica

Ever noticed how your tone goes slightly muddy when you back off the volume on a guitar?

Here is a really simple and cheap upgrade that will keep your tone once you have rolled the volume off a bit. Even better is that it costs only $2.95 on the PBG site.

Just a warning, this did not work on my EX-5 and J Bass where there was no switch between the 2 pickups as when one volume was wound down to zero both PUP's were off. Went back to standard wiring on those 2 beasts and that did the trick.

Once the patient had been sedated it was time to go to work on the upgrade.....

Now just to open things up a bit....

Now insert the upgrade.....

In under 10 minutes, maybe less as I was not timing myself, plugged it in and guitar sounded great and did not lose tone once volume was backed off a little bit.

Proceeded to perform same modification on my Epiphone Slash LP plus a couple of cheapie P Bass guitars and they now all enjoy the benefit of this inexpensive modification that dramatically improves the overall sound and tone form each of these instruments.

If you have not already done this to any of your guitars I highly recommend it....just don't bother on axes where they are similar to J Bass wiring meaning 2 x volume and 1 x tone.

I have a partscaster with same mod, it makes such a difference to the tone and volume

I always use this treble bleed mod on all my guitars. I hate losing treble when rolling down the volume knob.

You should also try the grease bucket circuit mod by fender. I feel it gives a much usable tone control as it doesn't add bass when you roll off the tone. Also gives a wah like quality when rolled down.

Funny you should say that Stan as I had all 11 guitars out yesterday and the 2 best 6 stringers were the XXXXplorer and the Pacifica followed by my 30 year old acoustic.
