    Brendan's STA-1M

Long story short - started this a year or more ago when working on a guitar with a mate, who's since left the country. I was also struggling with a colour for it, so when a little package arrived from DB in the mail the other day, I thought I'd have to give it a crack!

Looks like there's a new range of colours to come out soon - more solid than previously - this is the first coat....

Goes on just like other stains - coverage is fantastic!

@Gav, This is one of the new DT solid colours that BP has kindly offered to Beta test for me.
It has yet to be given a name, got a few ideas that I will put forward to the forum soon 😊

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

@Wokks - trem cover has to be recessed - doesn't it - looks better fully recessed.

Gav - stain has no name as yet - that said - gave me the feel of the Murchison Gorges in midwest WA. Nice winey plum colour - maybe a good merlot?

Total transparency here - DB has sent me the kit for nix as I'm testing it - that said - best stain I've used yet.

    Positives -
what you see is one coat worked in well (see below) -
consistent colour - I worked it in well, but the colour is consistent across the body
easy to apply - much like Wudtone and Dingotone I & II - easy to apply - no tide marks, so you can keep working the edges without worrying about leaving a darker line (a la Wudtone)
heaps of depth - ash grain has popped bigtime
touch dry within ~ 30 mins - stained outdoors under a patio at <10 deg C at night so humidity was up - worst case for drying, but dried pretty quickly - like any stain though will need some time to cure properly
coverage - as its a test, DB gave me a full bottle - I reckon there's easily enough for probably 2 more bodies in there.

    Downsides
the only thing I've found is that it does take some work to get it into the smaller open pores on ash. Generally not an issue if you're doing a couple of coats - given the coverage and depth of the colour - I am fully tempted to leave it at one. I think this would not be an issue on basswood as the pores are not open in the same way.
