I'm going to Re finish a bass I did with Automotive spray cans I want to take it back to bare wood so what would be the best way.

random orbital sander ( they take the round velrco backed discs) is my choice, you could use paint stripper but it's nasty stuff. Don't use those 1/3rd sheet sanders, they leave swirly scratches that take for ever to sand out.

Peter can you remember how many layers of paint you put on ?
if the paint is thick you may need a carton of beer.
Think a heat gun and paint stripper may be quicker, then finish with an oribital sander
