Cool Hello! Newbie, first build - TLD-1TP

Hi all, I've just purchased a TLD-1TP and I can not wait for it to arrive!

I'll start a build diary when it arrives, thanks in advance for answering my stupid questions.

Until then, any thoughts on the kit I have chosen to be my first? At this stage I am thinking of a red burst using the dingotone black stump and Uluru red, and replacing some bits and pieces including finding some nice black p90's to put in...but who knows what will happen!

What are the chances my basswood body will have a grain worth staining?

It will be interesting to see how my plans change as the reality of the build sets in.

    Welcome Bro!
Can't comment on that specific kit, but I'd say the odds are better than even, that you'll have decent enough grain to make it worth staining. Since the basswood bodies tend to be build up from multiple pieces you might find that you have several different grains across the body - some match better than others.
Good luck with the build - post lots of pics, ask lots of questions.

Hi and welcome. Nice kit and I look forward to seeing the end product.

I'm fairly new here too and learning. These guys are a wealth of information and really know their stuff.

Browse through the guitar finishing section of the forum and there is so much valuable information there.

I wish I knew about this forum before I did my previous build.

If you are stuck, everyone's always happy to help.

    Cheers,

    Alkay.

Ok, sooo two years later and I'm finally making some progress on the kit. Y'know, life gets in the way, shit happens. Anyway, I've finished the stain, done some preliminary soldering, I'm having a blast even if I have made a few newbie mistakes! Pics to follow after I get the guitar to a state where I am happy to show it in public. (Although posting pics looks like it may be more complicated than building a guitar)
Question: Do capacitors and resistors have a right way around or can I throw them in either way?

    Thanks,

Resistors don't have a polarity, some capacitors do but not the ones used in the kits for tone controls or a treble bleed. As such, you can connect them either way. If you're talking about adding some other electronics or active components then we'll need more info.

Thanks Scott, that answers my question. It was just the stock green capacitor and the capacitor/resistor upgrade I bought from the pit bull website.

Thanks again, and from now I will keep my questions to the appropriate thread. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome too!
