    Neck questions

    Hi All,

First post here . Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere.

I am considering building Tele kit but have some questions about the neck and body.

Preference is a rosewood fret board, what size frets are used? Are they jumbo/ medium jumbo? They look more like vintage in he pics ( deal breaker for me )
What is the neck profile like ?
Are they all 12" radius ?

Finally, would the neck pick up routing fit a humbucker on the standard TE body?

    Thanks in advance

Frets are medium size (2.4mm wide) I believe. Neck profile for the tele kits is a fairly fat c profile and all pitbull kits (supposedly) are 12" radius. The neck route needs a little modification to take a humbucker, but from memory, no routing is required.

Hi JP, welcome to the forum,
on the tele kits the neck pickup cavities are massive, way bigger than the humbucker, so no routing required but if you use a standard size pickup ring you may need to glue some wood to close any gaps and so there is wood underneath the screw holes.
The tele kit fingerboards are 12" radius and think Pabs is correct a medium fret.
Think the basic tele kit TL-1 comes with a maple fingerboard neck but you can request a rosewood neck
    Current Builds and status

TL1-R is your friend my friend - medium jumbo frets - C profile neck and rosewood fretboard. Adam and I haven't gotten around to adding all the detail to the kits, but those are standard for everything bar known exceptions / special requests (e.g., TL-51).

    Hope that helps.

Best of luck - don't be afraid to ask questions and start a build diary - that way we can all enjoy the build with you.

As promised here are a bunch of preliminary questions, please bare with me...

Sanding - Anything wrong with using an electric sander for the majority of the sanding or is a block and elbow grease the go ?
    - will a basswood body require a grain filler ?
    - is sanding sealer a necessary step before applying primer ( I won't be doing an oil finish )
Painting - I want a metallic finish and I am considering the Duplicolor aerosol system, primer , colour and clear. Any one used these products with any success ?

    Cheers

random orbital is what I use, ordinary orbitals leave horrible swirlys behind. I only use that for the initial sanding and switch to hand for the lighter grits. I didn't grain fill my Tele, took quite a few heavy coats of primer to get it to glassy smooth. next time I'll grain fill, it's cheaper and quicker than endless coats of primer. I used car acrylics but in a spray gun, I've used cans on other projects with no probs except they can get a little expensive but still....cheaper than a compressor.
