    Deadman's Build number 2 JR-1

I did have this ordered before I finished the Telecaster but driven by my enjoyment of building that and being pleased with my result I'm going straight into build 2.

So far I have a set of Wilkinson Imperial tuners to go on, a Schaller gold bridge on it's way and a gold Mini-humbucker to replace the P90.(had to buy the pair, just using the bridge one)

I ordered an extra neck with the kit, the stock one is getting used on a semi scratch build so I ordered an one with an ebony fretboard. I didn't notice they came with binding, so its going off back across the country for DB to replace the binding with black and replace the fret board dots with dark MOP.

Colour is kind of hard to explain, I'm calling the guitar Tsunami. I hope to achieve a paint effect similar to this image but with less white, mostly deep green and blue over and under black. I'll do a step by step as I go, I've used my system before painting katana saya's and it comes up nice. Should look great with the minimalist gold fittings.(no tone pot either)

Thanks Davey, I'm hoping I can achieve the look I want, that's all part of the process I guess, pushing our selves toward a goal. No progress this week, or probably next, as I have guys here replacing the guttering and painting the outside of the house.

So.....Customs are being slack and my stock hasn't been released today so....to the garage!
I sent the neck to DB for a fret job, remove the white binding it came with (it's an ebony fretboard) and replace with black, replace the dots with abalone and fit the brass nut. Brass, so it matches all the gold fittings. Anyway, I fitted it to the body and drilled the mount holes and cut the headstock shape today.

In test fitting the bridge to align the neck, I came across a problem. The gold Gotoh bridge I have came with chrome inserts YUK! they were also undersize for the pre-drilled holes. I had previously bought a cheap gold bridge off ebay, as luck would have it the threads were the same, but, the inserts were too long and oversized for the holes! .Well too much is always better than not enough, so I trimmed5mm off each insert and put the body in the drill press and enlarged the holes by about .5mm. the inserts will now be a tight press fit.
Then I took some 10mm dowel and spun that in the drill press while holding a file against it until I had the right size tapered plug to fill one of the pot holes as I'm not having a tone knob. Glued , sanded and done. No, I didn't fill the wrong one, I wanted the volume knob sitting out in empty space.
Smothered it all in a slurry of ebony timber mate which will hopefully save a few coats of primer filling the grain.
