    Binding question

    Hi DB.

For my most recent build, I just realised the strips of binding I have are about 5cm short of going the whole way around. This means I need to put a join in somewhere.

Any advice on A. where the join should go and B. how to minimise the appearance of the join so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb when I stain the sucker black?

Or should I just suck it up and try to find some longer strips? (Everything I can find seems to be a standard of 5ft/1650mm long)

    This one btw.

    Hey Pabs,

Assuming you are using ABS binding, it wont matter too much where the join goes.
However, it is best to have the join in a spot that doesnt have any curve..

So, glue the first strip in but take care not to get glue on the end where the join is.
As you go to lay the next length down, give the join a drop of acetone and press the strip firmly in.
The acetone will melt and fuse the bindings together.

Make sure you have your binding tape ready as you will need to work fast, it is important not to let the second strip wave around too much as it will break off easily.
Much easier to have a second pair of hands with this job

When all is done and you have filed and scraped the join you may see a bit of a gap.
Fill this with your ABS putty, (melt some binding in acetone)
You may also spot a few gaps that you can also fill.

    Have fun!

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....
