Hi guys, working on my RC - 4... looking at the wiring diagram, it shows both volume and neck pots at 500k. What I got were two marked as 250k and two marked as 'b504'.
Best way to find out which is which is to measure them with a multimeter, the marking, "b504", is just another way pots are marked with their value, the "b" means that it's a Linear Pot and the ""504" indicates the value which is read this way, Five, Zero, and Four more zeros, which gives 500,000, or 500k.

You can check the value and taper with a multimeter if you have one.
Most people use 500k pots for both tone and volume with humbuckers. I tend to use audio (or log--same thing) for both tone and volume, but some people use linear for tone.
Dr. N is right about that "b" is probably linear. "A" is usually audio.
