Hi, I'm building a TLA-1 and i would like to use the bridge that came with the kit. Do all teles have the strings go through the body or can you thread them through the rear of the bridge?
Cheers
Derek

Hi Derek,
The PBG bridge on the TLA-1 is not a string through the body, only the bridge. I don't think it would work to drill through the body and string it through the rear of the bridge.
You could either buy a bridge that allows for the body to be strung through or, measuring carefully, drill the string holes in the PBG bridge with an appropriate drill bit.
I used a Wilkinson compensated bridge on my TLA-1R and strung through the body. That bridge comes with two sets of string holes, one for rear string through (like PBG) and one set for body string through.
Good luck, cant wait to see your finished build!

Thanks Andy,
That's good to know, being my first build I wanted it to be as easy as possible.
I have finished the tru-oil on the neck, and it's come up pretty good. Just need to make a decision on what I'm going to put in the fretboard.
I've have finished the tru-oil on the body and it's clear I haven't sanded enough. (I thought I had) started with 180 - 240 on an orbital then went to 400 by hand.
Anyway looking forward to getting it back together and hearing her.
Time to research some decals.
If your after ease, I'd use the PBG bridge and just string it from the bridge. It'll be faster and less work and less risk. You can always modify and create the string through later. Not sure if the tone difference is that much anyway.
I don't use orbital sanders all my sanding done by hand. My goal is 30 days of sanding at 20 mins per day usually does the job. If I have days off I can reduce the days.
Good luck with the decals
