    Marze's first build - TL-1Q

    Well, we have lift off.
After being inspired by FredA's guitar of the month build http://www.buildyourownguitar.com.au...5185#post95185, I have ordered a Pit Bull TL-1Q for my first build.

Order was placed on the 2 Feb and promptly arrived on the 9 Feb.

I went with upgraded tone rider pickups and separate guard (thinking of not putting one on, maybe) and all black hardware. I have chosen the dingo tone Bondi blue finish and a clear finish for the neck. I debated on upgrading the tuning keys, but ended up going with stock version as this is the first build and feedback was the stock tuners are pretty good.

Order was placed as follows - I hope I haven't missed something:

Pit Bull Guitars TL-1Q Electric Guitar Kit (Quilted Maple) (#TL-1Q)
    Hardware: Please supply black hardware
Bone nut pre-shaped and cut to suit F type guitars (#DT-BNF)
Tonerider TRT2SET Hot Classics Set (for TL style kits) (#TRT2SET)
Dingotone Application Kit - Gloves and Cotton Cloth (#DTAK-1)
Dingotone Body Finish Kit - Bondi Blue (#DTBB)
Dingotone Neck Finish Kit - Colourless (#DTNFCL)
Dingotone Steel Wool Kit - 0000 Grade Steel Wool and Gloves (#DT-SWK)
Dingotone Shielding Kit - Quality Copper Shielding Tape (#DT-SHK1)
Dingotone Sanding Kit - 5 Grades of Quality Sandpaper (#DT-SAK1)
PBG TL Style Pickguard - Black (#PBG-PGTLB)

Kit arrived nicely packed and undamaged after its trip from Perth:

One quirk has been the "bleeding" from the black edge binding into the grain of the quilted maple (see photos below). Adam has kindly offered to replace the kit with a non-quilted version, but I thought I would ask if anyone else has seen this and worked out how to fix it or work around it?

I do like the quilted maple grain and would like to keep it if possible.

Can't go wrong with a blue Tele Marze!

As for the bleeding , with some very gentle sanding and the addition of the colour, I doubt it will be all that noticeable ... If all else fails you could do a dark blue or black burst to hide it

Not much you can do about that bleeding, apart from what Stan suggested, and go for a burst effect and put a very thin black boarder around the whole top of the guitar.

The problem isn't really fixable by sanding, as the veneer is so incredibility thin, in trying to remove the bleeding you would more than likely sand through the veneer, which is un-fixable apart from totally removing it and replacing.
    So options are
1] Do a burst finish to cover the bleed
2] Forget about the figuring and just go a solid colour.
3] Take up the offer of a replacement.

If you really want the figuring, I'd take up Adams offer on a replacement.

That bleeding is caused by the acetone used to adhere the binding... It is real pain in the butt!!

Anyhoo, wot Stan and Tweaky sed.... the black edge burst is a great work around for this problem.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Don't even get me started on the NBN. No immediate plans to roll out in our area. I live 5 mins from a Telstra exchange. 5 mins from a $1bn hospital being built. Supplementary medical industry flooding into the area, and no NBN?

Suckin' solder Andy, nothing like it.

Back to the guitar, i am thinking of doing a black burst stain on mine, just being fancy, i think thats the way for you to go with the Acetone bleed on yours.

Hi Marze, welcome to the forum
as others have suggested. Keep sanding the veneer to bare minimum, Pablopepper from the forum sanded through a couple of spots and he didn't do much sanding at all.
    The toneriders should sound great.
Look forward to the build diary

It's a shame they predrill the holes for the pickguard on these I think I have seen 1 or 2 other on here like it. Those toneriders should be great I have been meaning to get a set as a bit of an upgrade on a squier tele I have
