Here's one guitarist who inspires me.

    Hi everyone,

Here's one guitarist who inspires me whenever I pick up my guitars, or when i listen to his music, he's one of my favorite guitarists, Eric Johnson, I always keep wondering how he gets such a fat tone out of his Stratocasters, to my ears his playing sounds very musical, here's a youtube video of him performing the instrumental "Righteous" live, just listen to the tone he gets:

I'm also a massive Rory fan, have you read Riding Shotgun by Gerry McAvoy about his years playing alongside Rory, it's worth tracking down he had an interesting career.

Players I try to draw inspiration from today are, Jerry Donohue, John Jorgensen and Brent Mason

I have read Riding Shotgun a great read, not much i dont know about Rory, i was heavily involved in a few Rory projects including a recording in support of his charity the "Irish Youth Foundation"

Big fan of Roy Buchanan as well here he gives his guitar Nancy a good kick in the guts.

listening to John Williams helped me to discover Segovia.
he doesnt care about slides and other sounds equated with getting around the fretboard, he is about the end result, really defined classical guitar.

Eric , Roy and Rory certainly have the blues / rock thing down

another is Danny Gatton, the Telemaster:

and to me the current king of blues rock, Joe Bonamassa, and the awesome lonesome road blues:

Possibly explaining my 'eclectic' tastes in music somewhat, my earliest inspirations in guitarists...

    Django Reinhardt

    Mark Knophler

I've heard lots of great things about Rory Gallagher so there's another guitarist I should start getting into, cheers, Andre Segovia is very highly regarded too as well as John Williams, incidentally, John Williams did some great stuff while in the band Sky, pretty cool progressive rock, here's one of Sky's instrumentals:

Django Reinhardt is cool, what's really amazing about him is what he was able to play on his guitars since he had only two working fingers on his fretting hand which got damaged in a fire accident when he was younger, for me he serves as a lesson in that you can overcome any difficulties.

I love Mark Knopfler's guitar playing and tone too, very tasteful.

Dave Gilmour's playing is cool too, to me his playing is not only about what you play but also what you don't play too....phrasing.

Going back to Eric Johnson, his guitar tone and playing seems to take on a kind of three dimensional quality to my ears.

Joe Satriani is another guitarist who inspires me, his music shows me how chords and scales can work together to create great sounding music.
