Thread: Creating Shapes with wood.

    Question Creating Shapes with wood.

    Hi,

I have question regarding a basic woodworking skill. I've attached a picture that shows what I am talking about.

I am looking to build a booster that will act as a cradle for a neck heel where I can glue the neck heel in on all sides except the top (like a neck pocket for an electric guitar). For the moment, I am testing with pine planks. The planks are outlined - the whiter blue square is a "back" to increase the strength of the join.

    1) What is the best way to create the sloping triangle shapes on the outside two planks without power tools?
    2) What is the best way to create a smooth, even curve on the bottom half without expensive power tools?

If a tool would help a lot - I have access to a jigsaw and a drill

    Thank you

    Hey Mario,

I would make templates for each board.

Then cut them with jigsaw and dress each face with a plane or a sanding bar.
The two outer boards can be rough cut with a handsaw and dressed with the plane/sanding bar as well.
Dry fit the pieces and adjust as needed.

Glue them together (you may need to make a simple glueing jig)

You should end up with the flat planes needing only a minor clean up.

The curved part will then need a cleanup with rasps and sanding. Lots of sanding

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....
