    10" speaker ----> guitar amp?

    Ahoyhoy all, this Christmas I was gifted a 10" Pioneer speaker. I would like to turn it into a guitar amp, but have no clue where to start. So rather than get information from the internet like drinking water from a fire hydrant I thought I would ask the wise sages here at PitBull. So, here's what I know:
    1. Made by Pioneer and has "VCCS - Voice Coil Cooling System" on it.
    2. It is 10" in diameter and has no punctures/perforations around the seal.
    3. That is all.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I think I have about 14 guitars on my to-do list...

    @ nDRO1d What impedance is the speaker rated at?, have a look on the back of the speaker where the magnet is, it should have something that looks like a number with a horse shoe shaped character next to it or it may say something like 8 Ohms.

    It sounds to me like you might have a 10 inch Bass or Woofer speaker there, those can make fairly good guitar amp speakers, or it might be one of those full-range speakers that are fitted in cars, in that case it should be fine for guitar amp use, the frequency response of a guitar amp typically ranges from about 100Hz to about 5kHz.

    How many watts is the speaker rated for?

    Hey thanks guys.
    Wokks - Definitely will pm him.
    DrNomis - I just pulled it out of it's "cabinet" - 10mm MDF, silicon all around the seams. Those are screw holes too, btw. Not bullet holes. Thankfully the unseen part of the speaker looks like it had more love. As for the details...
    500W max, 250W nominal. 4 Ohms. Free air use sub woofer. model TS-W254F. Made in Mexico.

    should make a good guitar amp Ndroid, plenty of power. The cabinet could use a bit of tidying up, maybe fill some holes and a paint job !

    Being a subwoofer will probably be more suited to a bass amp so it won't have the high frequencies of a guitar amp

    Agreed, that Subwoofer should make a good Bass Guitar amp, you can probably buy a 250 Watt Power Amp kit from Jaycar Electronics or Altronics and then all you'd need is a suitable Pre Amplifier.

    Yep, I was just reading my pm from Lawry. He suggested the same thing - up to 200W bass amp, open at the back and I should be cooking with gas. There is one from Jaycar that does 175W into 4 Ohms for $95. Now I just need to teach myself how to go from a mono guitar jack to the amp to the speaker. Also, it means I get to buy a bass from you know where =D. I'm thinking the MMB-4 in silver...
    Thanks again guys, and Merry Christmas.
