My PRS SE Custom 24 Guitar

Thought I would start yet another thread about one of my other guitars, this time it's about my PRS SE Custom 24 Fret Guitar, if my memory serves me right I bought the guitar a couple of years ago from Sounds Of Music, the story goes like this, I had originally planned on ordering a new PRS SE Santana guitar through Sounds Of Music when I was told by one of the shop assistants that they were having some issues with their distributor that they order the PRS guitars from, so I talked to them about buying one of the PRS guitars that they already had in stock and ended up buying a 2009 Korean made PRS SE Custom 24 guitar in Cherry Red Flamed Maple, the body of the guitar is Mahogany with an un-carved (ie flat-topped) Maple cap with a Flamed-Maple Veneer, the neck is Maple with a Rosewood fingerboard, it features a Korean-made version of the PRS floating bridge, two PRS designed humbuckers (I don't know their full specs), a master volume control, a tone control, and a 3-way Gibson-style toggle pickup switch.

Since I've owned the guitar I've gotten to the point where I have decided that I really don't like the stock trem system for a couple of reasons:

1, Try as I might I could never get the guitar to stay in tune, it would go out of tune even with very subtle use of the trem arm, or even just gently damping the strings with my picking hand, I traced the problem to the nut, specifically the way the strings splay out from the nut to the tuners, I tried lubricating the nut slots, slightly enlarging the nut slots, replacing the nut with a new one, installing locking machines, and the guitar still wouldn't stay in tune.

2, Every now and then the trem arm would come out of it's socket whenever I tried using it.

So, I have decided to replace the stock trem with a Floyd Rose system, and I'm going to be ordering the new trem from Real tone Music this coming Tuesday, the new Bridge is going to be a Schaller Lockmeister Floyd Rose Bridge, and the new locking nut is going to be a Schaller R3 Floyd Rose Locking Nut that bolts through the neck.

I'm going to be uploading some pics of the guitar and the new Bridge and Locking Nut shortly.

    Update:

I have just ordered the new Schaller Lockmiester Floyd Rose Bridge and R3 Locking Nut from Realparts.com.au, they actually gave me a discount of $16.10 off the total price of the order, not only that, my order was eligible for a free 2 working day express postage shipping too, so hopefully I'll receive my order by the end of this week if all goes well, I'm going to be getting a good friend of mine to do the installation work on my PRS SE Custom 24 guitar since I'm not confident in my ability to do a good installation job myself.

    Update 2:

Just checked Australia Post Tracking and apparently the new Schaller Lockmeister Floyd Rose Bridge and R3 Locking Nut are at the Winnellie Post Office just up the road from where I live, and have gone through processing, so, I should be getting a parcel card in my mailbox any day from tomorrow till Friday next week.

Hope so too mate, although the Winnellie Post Office does tend to be a bit slow when sending out the parcel cards, I'm not really too worried as the wait will be worth it in the end, how does the saying go?...."Good things come to those who wait".

I'm just hoping that the new trem system will make the guitar into a much better instrument to play since I was never that happy with the original trem system even when the guitar was brand new, the guitar would be well and truly out of warranty by now so I'm treating this as another guitar project on my to do list.

    Update 3:

I just went down to my mailbox to check my mail and there was a parcel card inside it, so it looks like I'll be picking up the new bridge and locking nut from the Post Office this afternoon, just have to wait till about 4:50pm or so as it says on the card "Collect after 5:00pm On 10/12/2015 ", okay I'll admit it...getting pretty excited about it, but I guess a little more waiting is not going to hurt.

I'm pretty impressed with Realtone Music and their fast dispatch of orders so they have secured my continuing patronage, ie: I'll be ordering more stuff from them in the future.

Hey Doc, trying to work out your posting system, do you have a PO box at the post office ?
Wondered why it doesn't get delivered to your street address ?

I'll give a +1 for Realtone for delivery speed, I ordered about $190 of goodies for my scratch Jazzmaster, at least 13 or 14 different items Friday afternoon and it was on my desk at work Tuesday late morning. And thats across the whole country. Keep up the good work Realtone. The order usually dispatches within about 2 hours of placing the order - tell me any online shop that can match that !

Actually no, I don't have a PO Box at the Post Office, I've got a mailbox that is roughly 20m away from the front door of my flat, it is in a group of mailboxes located own in the carpark near the block of flats where I live, here's a pic so you can see where they are located:Click image for larger version.

The reason why they didn't just deliver the parcel to my mailbox is basically because the parcel is too big to fit through the opening on my letterbox, so it got delivered to the Winnellie Post Office just up the road from where I live, it is within easy walking distance and to be honest I don't mind since the walk to the Post Office is good exercise for me anyway....lol.

When I was ordering the stuff from Realtone Music they let me know that my order qualified for the free two working-day express postage and shipping they were offering since the total cost of my order was over $200.00, that really made my day so I applied for it, the total cost of the order ended up a bit less than what I had budgeted for, so I was pretty happy.

ah ok Doc, mailbox may not be big enough for the parcel and would be safer to pick up from the PO box.
My inbox was full Doc, I've made some space so please send me the PM again?
