Thought I would start yet another thread about one of my other guitars, this time it's about my PRS SE Custom 24 Fret Guitar, if my memory serves me right I bought the guitar a couple of years ago from Sounds Of Music, the story goes like this, I had originally planned on ordering a new PRS SE Santana guitar through Sounds Of Music when I was told by one of the shop assistants that they were having some issues with their distributor that they order the PRS guitars from, so I talked to them about buying one of the PRS guitars that they already had in stock and ended up buying a 2009 Korean made PRS SE Custom 24 guitar in Cherry Red Flamed Maple, the body of the guitar is Mahogany with an un-carved (ie flat-topped) Maple cap with a Flamed-Maple Veneer, the neck is Maple with a Rosewood fingerboard, it features a Korean-made version of the PRS floating bridge, two PRS designed humbuckers (I don't know their full specs), a master volume control, a tone control, and a 3-way Gibson-style toggle pickup switch.
Since I've owned the guitar I've gotten to the point where I have decided that I really don't like the stock trem system for a couple of reasons:
1, Try as I might I could never get the guitar to stay in tune, it would go out of tune even with very subtle use of the trem arm, or even just gently damping the strings with my picking hand, I traced the problem to the nut, specifically the way the strings splay out from the nut to the tuners, I tried lubricating the nut slots, slightly enlarging the nut slots, replacing the nut with a new one, installing locking machines, and the guitar still wouldn't stay in tune.
2, Every now and then the trem arm would come out of it's socket whenever I tried using it.
So, I have decided to replace the stock trem with a Floyd Rose system, and I'm going to be ordering the new trem from Real tone Music this coming Tuesday, the new Bridge is going to be a Schaller Lockmeister Floyd Rose Bridge, and the new locking nut is going to be a Schaller R3 Floyd Rose Locking Nut that bolts through the neck.
I'm going to be uploading some pics of the guitar and the new Bridge and Locking Nut shortly.
