Request for a Lap Steel Guitar Kit

Pitbull seems pretty much covered with standard six strings electric options.....although the 12 string options in the line up seem a little lacking in comparison ATM...when the demand hit's I suppose.

    Anyway.

How about a Lap Steel KIT ?
I've pretty much exhausted every needed 6 string electric need/ want ....I've always loved the Stones "The Girl with the Far away Eyes".. [ I know it was Ronnie playing Pedal steel Guitar] but you can get pretty darn close with a similarly made Lap Steel.

    Just putting out feelers.
Here's one of the best, Freddie Roullette

A Lap steel is pretty much a plank of wood with frets on it. and tuners at one end, and a tail bridge at the other.

I've never played one before, they Intrigue me ..... ask those that do know about Lap Steels, get a design together...
    I'll buy one

    Some do, just as markers.

They all have Fret markers of some sort....as in a stripe across a fretboard......The ACTION is considerably higher with a Lap Guitar

It matters little.....I want to play Slide well, be it Lap or standard guitar, open tuned.

I've been listening to Derek Trucks.

Have a listen to Cindy Cashdollar on lap steel http://youtu.be/Q46Qu9DpzTs she also does a lot of excellent work with Redd Volkaert and Asleep At The Wheel

Larry Hutcherson does a version of Little Wing on lap steel that would make the gods weep

Here's another familiar tune played rather well on the lap steel

At first I thought he was rather mundane, then as the song progressed, I heard what you were talking about...he came to life....there is a especially brilliant moment at around 4.05/9 where he lets his hand off the slide bar, and just uses the weight of the bar across the strings to give a WHA effect [bloody brilliant -NEVER seen that before !]

Yippee Ki Yay .....Ghost Riders in the Storm.....LOVE IT!

    Fretworn
While in most circumstances tone woods and brilliant neck/body construction, with equally excellent fret work ...would be a WANT

None of that applies with a Lap Steel.

The only consequential properties to get exactly correct would be the Bridge and the nut and tuners....and obviously the pickup height

thanks Tweaky for sharing that Little Wing video is a truly beautiful version. Check out his technique around 3:15 and 3:30 he lets the slide bar roll over the strings never seen that technique.
I own a couple of lap steel guitars, one I bought and one I built from scratch (very easy project) and they are so much fun to play.

These are the type of songs that want me to play lap guitar on.....just give me Patsy Cline to play for....I'll practise like Crazy.
