    Hello from Perth!

Hi there! I've just bought the TLA-1 kit as my very first guitar project (or officially my 5-year-old boys bought it as a Father's Day present - how did they know?). I've been playing guitar since I was a youngster and building one is something I've wanted to do for a long time, so I'm pretty excited to get started. I imagine it's going to be a pretty slow build between family/work and general inexperience but if there's something that seems to be repeated on the forums it's "don't rush it", so that will be my mantra...

A quick word of warning - not only is it my first guitar build, it will also be pretty much my first foray into woodwork (beyond a treehouse I built for the kids). I've been scouring the forums for any tips and will also probably be asking a bunch of questions along the way. Who knows how it will go, but I'm looking forward to finding out! I'll be starting a build diary shortly which I'll be updating as I go.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the welcome!

I'm thinking Dingotone 'Coolangatta Gold' for the body and colourless for the neck. I've been looking at other threads where people have used Timbermate and have been impressed with the outcome so I'll look into that as well. Is this something you apply after youve done the bulk of the sanding or before you start?

Welcome to the forum Ralphile! The Timbermate is used as a pore filler after the surface is nice and smooth. It pops the grain and fills all the pores for a super smooth finish. Good luck on your build. Many of us started with our first build right here! Looking forward to reading all about yours.

    cheers,
    Gav.
