    Post Hi there!

    Hey everyone,

Well I've taken the plunge and my first kit, the RC-1 has arrived today. I've always loved the look of Rickenbackers so it'll be awesome to have something that takes it's inspiration from the 330. The fact that it was on sale due to the slight routing error made it irresistible as I plan on a solid finish anyway. More on that later...

I'm a keen wood worker and a guitar has always been on the list but I've just never gotten to it. I figured a kit would be a good starting option as everything is there ready to go. Plus, with 2 kids, a full time job, and studying an Architecture degree full time there is not a whole lot of time left in a week. Don't hold your breath for this one- it'll take a while!

One of the attractions of a kit (and a very reasonably priced one at that) is that it frees me up a little to experiment with the finish. The last thing I'd want to do after forking out for a very expensive lump of wood and painstakingly shaping it is try something out of left field for the finish. Which brings me to the finish...

I'm a massive comics geek and I've had this idea in my mind for a while now of a guitar covered in comics, using decoupage. I'm sure that's probably sacrilegious or something but hey, it's my guitar
So this guitar may end up with that treatment, just on the front. I'll be doing some experiments on scrap wood first to make sure I can come up with something I'm happy with. The other option I may explore is a sparkle finish. Obviously I'm not going for your standard Ricky here

Anyway, that's enough from me for now. I'll get a build thread going and post as often as I get to do some work on it. As I said, time is a very limiting factor but I'm in no hurry either.

Time to dig into these forums and check out all the other awesome builds and get inspired.

    Cheers

    Greg

    welcome to the forum Greg,
love your plans. I think comics on a RC-1 will look excellent and there's not that many axes with that style of finish I can think of.
Sounds like with your background you will do a superb job.
The advice we always give to new kit builders is take your time so looks like you have no choice with the little free time you have.
Enjoy the build and look forward to seeing the build diary

Hi Greg. Wow, full time work, study and kids! I'm surprised you have time to sleep! Love the comics theme, I recently donated a very large box full of comics to a mate doing the same thing as a project with his son. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

    Sleep? I remember that...

I'll have to be very judicious and plan the comic cut outs carefully. There's not as much free real estate on the top of this guitar as there is on some other models.

Welcome Greg, sounds like a great project. Checkout SOG guitars sometime - I remember paul has done something similar that you might find inspirational.

    cheers,
    Gav.

We are most definitely talking superheroes. This one will actually be a Wonder Woman guitar. I'm thinking of even attempting to carve the logo into the end of the headstock.
