Yesterday morning was a quick shopping trip for some tools,
(a new project is an excellent excuse for man cave expansionism)

And we start with headstock shaping

After several Emails back and forth (on a weekend!) Andy is sending out a replacement kit.
I gotta say that Andy gets 11 outta 10 for customer service and backing up his product.

I do have a couple of noob questions for the learned folk haunting the forum,

1: What sort of glue would you use for a bone nut on a maple neck?

Im going to use Tung oil (is it just me, or does that sound rude to others as well?) for the fretboard.

2: Would Tung oil (now I just cant resist saying it) be good for the back of the neck as well?

Headstock coming along nicely shame about the body veneer. I think the veneers are a new addition. My TLA looks like the grain you have exposed underneath

shame the veneer was so thin on the edge. what colour you thinking of doing? a burst could cover it up

A drop of superglue for the nut is what I use.
Never tried tung oil on the fretboard personally, I always liked lemon oil. But it should work. And itll work for the back of the neck too.

The project will start again from scratch as Adam is replacing the neck and body.

What you cant really see is how deep the edges of the broken veneer is, the other trick is the STs and TLs arent supposed to have a veneer.

Ive changed my mind and after research Ill go for a Tru-oil finish for the neck and fretboard, Ive ordered some Outback sunset for the body, but I may save that for my next project and use Tru oil on the body.

I've got a maple neck STA-1 as well. I've used DB clear finish. Man has it made the wood pop! I love the way it looks. Just throwing it out there for you to think about. If you want I can PM you some photos of the neck.

Ult's right - one - two drops of superglue should be enough to hold the nut down. After all - the strings will add to the tension.

Like every 2nd guitarist says, the photos don't do it justice. But I'm sure you get the idea. And no, the fret board got DBs wax.
