    Wok's Marri LP scratchy

    G'day all
went to the Perth wood show yesterday and scored some nice timber. Scored a 3.1m long marri slab 42mm thick (two wider chunks in 1st pic) and a nice rock maple chunk (left in pic) will make 4 necks.
So excited little camper had to start a new scratchy as I've just finished the last one.
Never built a LP shape so wanted it a bit different put a small tele-ish dip above the neck and made the horn longer. Still need to do some sanding and reshaping. Got the neck and pup cavities routed and a rough sand. Will probably attempt an arch top as it weighs a heap. Should get the control and switch cavities routed this arvo
So 1st pic is the timber stash and 2nd the blank and 3rd on the bandosaurus

I sent some pics to DB and he thinks its quarter sawn so that's good news.
Slab will make 7 bodies. I will store the rest for myself and Wayne to build in about 12 months.
But had to start and build one now !

I thought the wood didn't need to be quarter-sawn for a body?

Damn, that is awesome, Woks. That shape is outstanding. This is going to be a fine guitar.

Pest, for a one piece body, it really should be. With multiple pieces you can arrange the wood so the natural bowing movement works against each other to stabilise it.

    Yep, wot Pabs said.
I prefer to use quarter sawn for body and neck.
If I want a sexy top I use a drop top or veneer cap.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

got the switch and control cavity routed yesterday. Also output jack hole drilled. Had to make a template for the control cavity.
Next step is to recess the cavities for the covers
