I'm thinking of etching using electrolysis or chemical etching for the neck plate. But I don't know what type of metal it is. My best guess is chrome plated steel. But it could be nickel. Does anyone know for sure? Also, has anyone tried etching on the neckplate before? Wanna pass over some tips?
FYI: It's for a STA-1M.

Barge had some great results sandblasting his neck plate. I've tried to laser engrave one. Don't bother. As an alternative, if you take it to one of those shoe repair/ key cutting kiosks in most shopping centres they usually offer engraving services.
I would say they are chrome plated steel.

Hey Andrew, I'd suggest a professional engraver or I'm going to have a crack at sandblasting like Barge did. My 4D buddy Popeye has a sandblaster at work and a signwriter mate is going to cut the vinyl lettering.

Yeah, I saw the sandblasting Barge did - very nice btw - but I don't have access to a sandblaster. Not sure if these geriatrics who live near Toowoomba have someone who sandblasts for a fee. I've got a small swan design, so that kinda rules out taking it to a keysmith or whatever to do the engraving. In my experience, they're only good at text. I think it's time to do more research...

As for an engraver, speak to a manufacturing jeweller (i.e. not Prouds or Michael Hill - one who makes jewellery) they will have know if there is a real engraver nearby.
I just used the dremel at a low speed the short stack pirate logo into my neck plate, just be extremely careful and take your time, you'll Probably have to go over it a few times to get the depth that you want, but that's oiterally al I did
For some things, some times, it's the same time all over the world, and I think we know what time that is...
How did you get the image onto the plate before you used the dremel on it.?
