    TL-1TB with flame Maple cap

As I was leaving for work this morning my special order TL-1TB with a flame maple cap arrived. Just had time to open it and have a quick look, more images to come but looks pretty good. I am building this for my daughter, Hannah. We are in for a good weekend.

Hannah naturally had to be consulted on the colour and we decided on a blue burst. A solid blue colour on the outside fading into Turquoise/Aqua Marine in the middle.
I purchased some powdered Aniline dyes from the U.S off Ebay and we have been experimenting mixing the dyes to come up with the Turquoise colour and have applied it to a jewelry box. The colour we ended up mixing was brilliant but as I have learned from my previous two builds, what I envision is not what it eventually ends up like... but we will just have to see what happens - it's all good fun!

love the colour you have mixed up Simon, that should look sensational on the flame cap! Better get sanding soon !
Check the thickness of the cap looking into the pup cavities, I suspect it will be very thin

    Noice colour..
With Aniline dyes, be aware that they will stain binding.
I found that if I polish the binding to 1500 it helps.
Then whack some masking tape over it (massive pain in the arse but o so worth the effort) you should be able to stop any staining.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Nice top there. It's gonna look great. Hear DB out. Did mine with aniline dyes and even with masking tape there is still scraping to be expected.

"Nice colours:-) You going for a high gloss finish?" - I haven't decided between a satin or gloss finish yet but leaning towards a satin/semi gloss.

Thanks DB for the advice, I will be sure to take care with the binding.

    Mock build

Finally after two weeks of having this I'm going to start work this weekend. The reason for the delay...it's been way too cold in my garage. Got the mock build done and everything seems to be there, and lines up correctly.

I have upgraded some components for this build. I ordered some Hipshot 3+3 locking tuners for my last build, the Junior but what arrived was some Hipshot 6 Inline staggered tuners. The business I purchased these from realized their mistake and refunded my money and said I could keep the tuners! A nice score indeed. I have a Graphtech Tusq nut, as well as a Graphtech Resomax NW2 Tune-O-Matic bridge, a Guitar Fetish XTrem Vibrato and a pair of Railhammer Hyper Vintage humbuckers (not seen in the photos).

Should I be worried by this? It seems the binding is separating from the body. Should I just use some Titebond and a clamp to see if this would fix it?

I know where your coming from in regards to temp in garage, my workshop is the same... Mock up looks good, binding does look like it needs a drop of glue but not sure on best type.
