    DK's STA build

    G'day all,

I've finally got around to making a start on the STA, had no end of trouble deciding on a headstock shape but finished up with the 50th Anniversary shape and so far the plan is to do the body a deep ebony colour

At the moment all the hardware and electrics will be standard but the pups will be upgraded to Seymour Duncan when I find where the grandkids have put them.

My band mates have suggested that I call my builds Ransom guitars which is kinda cute but there is a guy in the US who build guitars with this name.

Regardless of what I call it the model will be Tribute for fairly obvious reasons.

So many lines, so little time but guitar wise could be close to the truth. The stuff we are playing calls for Tele, Strat, HB Shergold & bass.

With its split coils the Shergold could just about cover for the Tele but lacks the wiggle stick of the Strat

After seeking advice in another thread I got the plastic nut out with issues that cause a great deal of angst.

They must have had surplus superglue in the factory and I finished up with a small piece of the top for the fretboard splitting off, got it back in place with PVA and unless you knew it's now hard to see.

After I took this pic I gave it a light sand with some 2000 and put some citrus oil on it and I'm almost happy again, also after the pic I gave the neck a coat of maple gloss stain. A couple more coats with a light sand in between should give it a nice aged look.

Below the area I circled there is a machining mark that has responded reasonably well to sanding and the oil

Here's a couple of pics of the neck, three coats of maple gloss, a bit of a sand with 2000, hit it with some carnauba wax and the polishing pad.

Not too shabby even if I do say so myself and now on to the body

Did the body with the Sikens ebony stain and was rather underwhelmed so have sanded it back, refilled the grain and am now thinking about a solid colour.

Probably something bright in a rattle can from the Septone acrylic range, this could change between front door and the shop though.

Here's some before and after pics of the stained body and then rubbed back and filled, being a 3 piece body the grain was all over the place so solid colour here we come.

The colour is chosen and the guitar will be know as "The Count" ( due to a funny event when I first met my wife )

Just hit it with a couple of coats of acrylic filler / undercoat and now to sand and recoat
