    ST-1 build- Frankenstrat inspired

A few weeks ago I picked up an ST-1 kit less hardware, I have an old Legend brand guitar with a body I mucked up by being overly aggressive with the power sander (and the body was only plywood anyway) which I will be using the hardware out of, I also ordered a black pickguard and the almost obligatory bone nut. A set of GFS Lil Killer rail pick-ups has been acquired, so it should sound ok. The finish will be loosely based on the Frankenstrat type look, with the base colour and striped overlay. I won't cover the basics like sanding and headstock shaping as they have been done before, but I will show how I did the body finish and a couple other bits and pieces.

I started off by sanding, sanding and sanding some more, the filled the grain with watered down Timbermate to get as smooth as surface as possible. Then I sprayed with a couple of coats of automotive primer surfacer. I sanded that back when dry and it looked something like this:

Looking great Ian! That's a beautifully smooth surface you've created there. She's gonna shine like glass .

    cheers,
    Gav.

So now I'll leave for a couple of days to dry, then start on the clear coats. It will take a few to fill the trenches where the masking tape was, so could take a while! Might have to invest in a heat lamp to help speed up the process.

While not a fan of Frankenstrats, I must say this looks to be an outstanding job so far.
IMHO your colour scheme mitigates the garishness of the usual variety of these axes.
    Oughta look bonzer when she's completed . . .
