You can also just use a piece of string/wire and wrap it around the pot's stem

Yeah you can to Nick I still have bruises on forehead to prove it and ceiling will never be the same lol. I guess I can see why the guy made it I have this long thread this Perspex . It was only after that he realised it took up nearly all his workspace .

I'd be a bit worried about string/wire biting into the edges of the knob.

i find a crowbar and a sharp tap with a mash hammer works every time. Also adds some of that relic goodness at a budget price!

actually, go to your local bike shop, get a couple of plastic tire levers. Place a couple of felt pads (like for under furniture feet) under the round end of each lever against the guitar body and lever away. No damage , cheap and easy-peasy
