Thread: Andrews ib7

Finally! Ordered this years ago as a birthday present to me from my wife, and today is the day. Promised myself I'd stain the Tele and oil the strat before starting this today, and guess what! They're both hanging!
Plans are a little sketchy for now. I have a rough idea for a finish but I want to upgrade the pups without breaking the bank. Any 7 string pups priced reasonably that'll get me into architects, northlane, hacktivist territory?

good stuff Andrew, u have early stages of GAS mate, this your 4th build ?
looks like a nice kit, there's been pup talk in other build diaries or maybe in the pickup section. Just make sure the upgraded pups fit before you start the finish. Best to do any cavity mods before the finish or even sanding starts

Whats your budget?? Artist guitars has duncan sentient/pegasus/nazguls for 128 each including free shipping, so thats pretty decent and will get you in a nice chunky heavy territory. Alternatively, for a similar price and a long wait, guitar parts resource has AHB-1 seven string sets but theyre active so if you dont like actives, then its probably a bad idea.

5th mate and 6th was ordered a while back as a custom order. Just checked out the guitarheads hex7 and the dimensions fit in with the stock pups. Seems like a good metal pickup with lots of high mid clarity and low mid scoop. Not too many vid reviews unfortunately but for $60 a set they'll do nicely. Don't want to spend a fortune on the pups for this one as I'd like to splurge a bit on the baritone 7 and get either some knuckles or dimarzios.

Woud like to stay away from actives. I've got an 81/85 set in an ec1000 that sound good, but very flat and one dimensional compared to passives imho.

Guitarheads hexbucker is pretty much a higher output stock pickup. IMO, the stock pitbull pups with a boost and a eq'd midscoop would sound the same and won't cost you anything.

Looking at the dimarzio blaze custom. They seem alright.

Dude was selling a set of blaze customs on eBay. Both neck and bridge shipped for $90. Stoked.

Abasi from Animals as Leaders and Vai used blaze customs so if you check out some of their older stuff you can hear the sound you can get from them. For $90 including shipping thats a bargain!
