G'day all, finally made a start on the sale kits. Why not start on a shape that was my first build. Had to go a stain as this body has fantastic grain. A rocking shape in the explorer has to be black, probably no pickguard. Here's the first coat

    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds

    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

Next step was to glue blackheart sassafras to the headstock and made the grain on the angle of the headstock. Gave it a lighter black shade so you can still the grain. Got a bit of tidying up around the truss rod entry.
    Stain is FW black

Hey Andrew, I'm about to put first coat of tru oil on, DB doesn't like it as it probably kills the natural wood tones a bit and can have long term problems, but time will tell. He's not a fan of high gloss axes as well

Ok cool. How does the dt clear go? As your the only one I know that's used it, I'm looking for something that will fill grain after charting the body and sanding back. Timber mate seems to hold up pretty well but the top sort of pits with the heat. Sorry to hijack your thread.

Looks amazing Wokka. I agree with all your choices here - much prefer to see the texture in the Ash grain myself, and the black stain goes so flamin well with it. The effect is just amazing! I'm guessing you won't be able to get a truly glossy finish with the TO due to all the grain? I'm doing an Ash Tele myself in exactly the same way and that seems to be how it's playing out. Anyway, great work dude and I can't wait to see the final results!

    cheers,
    Gav.
