OK Have tried to do a diary for the last week or so but nothing happened. I did copy the text of the last try so will start again.

    Hi,
Back again, this one is for me.

Some time ago I played a swamp ash Les Paul studio, I loved it. When I saw that LPs' were available in Ash, well I just couldn't resist.

Wont be starting on this for a while, well it will take a while to build as there is a lot of things I want to do. It is to be finished in Coolangatta Gold, thinking of a sunburst but maybe not. Also thinking of high lighting the grain, but not being experienced in this, again may be not. Living on the Gold Coast I didn't think it would be good to finish in "Perth Pink"or "Bondi Blue"

Thanks to DB, I have had an extra rout for another pick up, and because I had trouble with the neck on "Taylor" (now finished awaiting transport to Cairns)I had DB do a neck job on this one, thanks for that.

Here are the usual "receiving pics'"

    Rick

Since then I have sanded but been a bit busy to do much more.

    So until next update

    Rick.

(which might be soon, as my dingo tone is not working out, that's something I need to check)

That grain looks superb, I'd be doing everything in my power to highlight that fact. Stunning kit.

Beautiful grain on that body Rick! And that third pickup route is awesome - been thinking similar things myself. Very interested to see how your kit turns out. Keep us posted!!

    cheers,
    Gav.

Well the grain is not so good now, with all the sanding that I had to do, and maybe I should have highlighted it, but thats too bad for me.

Gave it another coat of DT, but was just not happy, it needed more. the grain was very "wavey" so I did a lot of sanding but it is still not as smooth as I would like, but ok I guess (it's not too bad but it is now a smooth wave and slightly smaller).

Went looking for my golden oak, no where to be found but discovered that it was golden teak, one bit of wood is like another bit of wood, so rubbed some of that on see pic.

I'm not too sure if I should use the DT for a top coat and am still thinking of adding more color. Need to do the back and see what happens after that.

Pic 1. one coat of teak.

    2. from the other side.

    3. after another coat, from the front.

wow Rick that looks amazing with golden teak. Wasn't sure if the stain was going to soak in after the wax has been rubbed it but some sanding and that looks like you have achieved the colour you were after.
You better stop calling the wax dingotone. Call it Dingowax so people don't get confused.
I've used this stain on many builds and love the colour.
Maybe go for a couple more stain coats before top coats

    Oops, sorry Adam, my mistake.

Yes, that is getting to be the color I am wanting, still deciding wether to add a bit more color (sunburst) or not. I cant find any red that I think will be suitable, unless I get it from America, which I don't want to do.
Wattyle have a "2 in 1" which is stain and varnish but only in wood colors, dark mahogany / jarra is the closest.

I will use the dingowax for the top coat to see how it turns out. It was ok when I rubed it on the bare wood but didn't like the "no color" effect.

Today I have put some wallnut on the back, once again not entirely happy but will leave it maybe another coat or two will bring it up a bit.

    Pic 2 As above

    Pic 3 "

Rick you referring to Adam ? I made the last comment.
That coat of walnut looks awesome, not sure why you wouldn't be entirely happy about it !
One more coat of walnut and golden teak should be ready for wax top coats.
I suggest a steel wool of the binding before next coat will make it easier to clean up before wax coats
