Hi Guys'. Ok, I have been trying to do a build diary but it just won't work, and it won't tell me why, so need to ask a question in here.

    Hope this works.

I have sanded the Ash bodied les paul and applied dingotone in Coolangatta gold.
BUT there is no gold, just clear, I'm not happy with this as I want a "goldie" face on the guitar. Giving extra coats, I think, wont make this happen.

Can anyone please tell me if this is it or what I am doing wrong.

Would send a pic but that is why I cant post on the diary.

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Rick

Rick, the DT kit should have 3 bottles, a stain coat, intensifying coat and a top coat. I suspect you have applied the top coat hence no colour.
I'd try and sand off as much as the top coat as you can and apply the stain coat then intensifying coat.
No idea why you can't start a build diary

Well all that I got was the container of DT, and I must add had a lot of trouble taking the lid off, finally got it and discovered that it screwed off, oh well.

The reason there is no second pic is, I can't blue tooth it to the computer. I'll take another with Christine's camera.

    Pic 2 Waxed face.

    Pic 3 Waxed Face

    Pic 4 as it came.

Rick the dingowax is colourless, its for finishing your fretboard and you can rub it over the body after its stained. Sorry mate thats not a stain coat.
I do like how it looks with the wax though !

It looks ok from a distance, but up close it needs something else. (I dont dislike it, just wanted some color)

Just not sure what I'll do just yet, but hopefully it will turn out ok.

    Rick.

Ok, just thought of what I will do (at this stage, but it may change).

    Give it a light sand.

Than use some "Golden Oak", I reckon a coat or two of that then rub some DT on again.

Only interested in the face at this time, I will worry about the back and neck later some time.

I think you need to reconsider your plans.....

The fact that you have waxed the top, will, I expect have created a seal that will prevent stain from going into the wood. I think you may need to drop DB an email and ask for his input on this before you get deeper into trouble with where you are going.

If you rip out the sandpaper and start sanding that top you WILL sand through the veneer.

DB will possibly have some input and be able to tell you if there is a way to rectify what you have done so far. I suspect that you may have to alter your plans however because I'm not convinced you will be able to stain the top now. Maybe you could spray paint over it, but wait on DB to advise you before proceeding further.
