I received the 'Sunday special' LP-1M with mahogany body/neck Thursday and wasted no time starting the build. Our of the box the kit looks great, nice flame maple cap and all fit together well, neck fit is quite tight.
Gave the cap a light sand and stained it black to pop the grain.
This is what the cap looks like after 2 coats of gold stain

picked up a heap of veneers from the woodshow on Friday. Glued some black sassafras veneer on the headstock and had the grain going across trying to replicate the flames

That's incredible mate. Where else can you find veneers? Online at all?

    cheers Andrew,
this is the supplier at the woodshow, scroll down to see what timbers they supply. They are based in Tasmania

Think there's been other links where to get veneers in the forum but I can't remember. Pretty sure there's a supplier in Qld or the east coast

Wokka that gold looks amazing, with a real deep clear that will look like some of the finishes you see on PRS and Carvin customs

cheers Tony, planning a few more colour coats to really get that gold intense. Planning using Dingotone clear for this one

Looking great Wokka! You've done a splendid job popping that excellent flame. The gold just keeps getting deeper! Will look awesome with clear coats.

    cheers Gav.
