Thread: My IB-6S Bass Guitar Week One Mock Up

  1. #1
Okay here's my mock up of my bass, and so far, I've found some of the places where the hardware is supposed to go, still working on others, but, so far so good! Next step is the sanding..have 180, 220, and 400 grit to sand with, and for my finishes, I have Minwax Dark Walnut for the back and a polyurethane clear high gloss for the cap to let the natural wood come through!

Looking good. No offence, but could you try to keep your build diary to one thread, things get confusing otherwise.

looks great RJM (whats your name by the way?), nice looking cap. Mock up looks good. Check the height of the top of the neck heel where it meets the body, the maple part is flush with the body. Think mine needed a bit of sanding.
Keep that hammer well away from the build !
I like your plans for finishes although a thick polyurethane finish on the cap you may lose some of the natural timber sounds.
As Pablo said you don't need to start a new build diary thread, keep adding to the original one.

RJM if you are unsure about where the parts go take a photo of them and post them and I should be able to tell you. The hardest part is probably working out different length screws where they go. Generally the 3 smallest screws go on the truss rod cover. 2nd smallest for the control cover. The longer screws fix the bridge and 4 longer screws with springs are used for each pickups. From memory there are 3 capacitors but you will only need 2 for 2 tone controls for the two humbuckers.
Don't forget an earth wire must be run to make contact with the bridge and run as an earth wire to the control cavity. There is a hole drilled for this. This will be done later in the build when finish is done and you are assembling it

Okay, sorry about the delay in posting, my son who has special needs, turned 8 on Friday, so we celebrated the entire weekend! Now, I have a couple of questions, and please forgive the noobie questions:
    1) Is this the time to set the bridge, because there weren't any pre-drilled holes to set it, so I have no clue how to set it..?
    2) When sanding, do you start with a quick sand of 180 grit to lower the high spots before applying the first coat of clear gloss? I'm going with a clear gloss on the front to show off the cap and walnut on the back, leaving the neck clear also. Then after applying the 1st coat of clear, can I sand in between coats? I usually do when I'm painting a helmet, just wondered if the same principal applies...

...and the educator looks forward to being educated again! Thanks Gavin! :-)

Okay after sanding with 180, 220, and 400 grit (that's all that was in my local hardware store), I cleaned the bass body and neck with water and a cloth to remove the sawdust, the cap turned out great! Now have to wait for everything to dry overnight,it's raining here, so it's damp...now it's ready for fitting the bridge hopefully and figuring that out with your wonderful help.....pleeeese?

The saddles need to sit the same distance from the twelfth fret as the distance from the nut to the twelfth fret.
This thread should cover all relevant information. http://www.pitbullguitars.com/commun...iewtopic&t=302
