I put some photos in the photo gallery, but thought I would post over here to give a bit more detail on the build.
The body was contoured and sanded (and sanded, and sanded...) then a coat of Feast Watson Sealer was applied. I used the sealer as I was worried about the end grain soaking up stain and finishing darker than the rest of the body. As it turned out just the sealer popped the grain and I was tempted to go without any stain at all. The stain I used was Feast Watson, Old Baltic. Bunnings sell it in 50 ml sample bottles, ample for doing several guitar bodies. I then applied many coats of automotive clear as per the instruction videos and polished with Macguire's polish, once again as per the excellent instruction videos on this site.
The timber grain looked so good I didn't want to hide it behind a scratch plate, so I cut a small scratch plate from some carbon fibre sheet to mount the neck pick-up.
To shape the headstock I applied masking tape over the face of the headstock and traced the design onto the tape. I then cut thee shape using a jigsaw and sanded it all smooth.
The logo was done using Water Slide Decal paper from fleabay. I printed the design from OpenOffice using a colour laser printer and transferred it to the guitar. I actually printed the logo in several sizes onto the sheet and selected the best size at the last moment.
I haven't done any adjustment at all to the neck yet as I am very happy with the action. Adjusting the intonation took about half an hour going back and forth with an electronic tuner.
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned and it plays and sounds great.
Hope you like it,
Cheers
