This is a guide to be used in supplement with Gavin's guide in order to get more accurate results if you do not have an adequately accurate tuner. In order to attain perfection you will actually need to get your setup calibrated (much like you would if you owned a high end tuner), however this will exceed the quality of any tuner you have (unless you have a high end one, then it will be approximately equal)
What you will need is;
- A way to connect your guitar to your computer (if electric). Eg. DI, Interface, other input jack (not ideal)
- A suitable microphone (if acoustic only or otherwise unable to connect to your computer)
1. Using the recording menu, open recording device and calibration. Select the appropriate recording device and the quality you wish to use. If you wish to calibrate, change the frequencies here.
2. Using the Note menu, select the tuning you would like to use (Guitar standard, Guitar Drop D, Bass, Bass Drop D).
3. Tune strings quickly with the rough guide on the right hand side, and then fine tune and intonate with the center interface.
From here you can play your notes and tune and adjust as necessary as per the existing guide.

While we're at it, I wouldn't mind seeing what 'portable' apps people use on their mobile phones to cover all bases (or should that be basses) when they're out and about. The app I can't live it hour is Guitar Toolkit (iPhone). It has a chromatic tuner, chord library, metronome, scales, heaps more. Easily the favourite and most used app on my phone.
PS. I didn't mean for the picture to be so big. I thought I had copied just an icon sized image. :?
I don't own one (I use a laptop if I am doing stuff like that out and about), but on the guitar effects side of things, I've heard people using Bias amps and JamUp
I use strobosoft on my iPhone .its ok pretty accurate by Peterson. You can add individual tuning sweetners for individual
Instruments I:e Bass Guiitar ,Bluegrass ,Keyboards ,Steel Guitars Orchestral,Buzz Feinten

I downloaded that APTuner software and found it really useful, so, next fortnight I'm going to register it, cheers for posting the download link.
By the way, it worked fine with my Focusrite Saffire Pro40 Audio Interface, should work fine with most other Audio Interfaces (I downloaded the Windows version and I'm running it on a 64Bit Operating System.....works fine).
