Hello to all those who currently viewing my guitar-thingy, thanks fr joining me on the ride.
I would like to introduce you to Estelle. She is lean, mean, green and ready to fly (At least once she is wired up )
i attempted the wiring last night and all was working and solid , so i put it all in the cavity screwed in the scratch-plate the pickups and the output jack. But to my dismay as i went to test her again, the bridge pickup was no longer working ! So i unscrewed the scratch-plate to check all was in place, which it was, i triple checked the wiring diagram and all was good so i gave the wires a jiggle to check none were loose when several of the actual wires broke, not the solder but the exposed wires. then the neck pickup only started working in the neck position !!! can someone help me try and piece together what happened and where i can buy good wires for my second attempt. there would be an extreme amounts of thanks
.
Hey Stringbreaker. Love your Ricky. What's not to love about them.
Do you have a multimeter? Turn the volume to maximum and set the switch to the bridge position. You should then be able to check continuity from the output jack through to the pickup wire. If you haven't got continuity then check that the switch is OK and that it is making contact in the bridge position. If that's OK check that the bridge pot is not faulty. Give that a try and let us know what you find. If possible, can you post a close-up photo of the whole wiring setup?
hi Michael,
Do you have any photos of the wiring and the broken wires? Might help to see the problem so we can suggest the best fix. The single core wires that come with the kits are pretty standard. Is it this single core hokup wire that has broken, or possibly the dual core wires from the pickups?
Your Ricky is looking great btw. I'm a sucker for a Ricky myself and have never seen a green one before. This beast of yours is going to look great with the hardware on!
cheers,
Gav.

Great place for wire is PitBull - their push back wire is dead easy to use and looks great!
As for fixing the problem, as above, give us some pickies and we should be able to get some help to you.

Hmmmm, rip it out and start again!
Also, you dont need to earth your pots together as you have got that beautiful copper shielding there to do that for you (I assume you have shielded the back of the plate as well)
As Brendan said, go for our push back vintage wire, it is a soldered wire so you wont have any stray strands that can short out on you...
Apart from that, Lawry is on the money re multimeter to check everything before closing her up.... Nothing is quite as annoying as what you have experienced, been there myself many times.
Really liking the green, very unique for a Riccy
Hmmm. It's a bit hard to see all the connections so that makes it a bit hard to determine what you have there. I also see you have one pot with no connections.
I tend to agree with DB, it may be best to unsolder the lot and redo it. And if you do have a multimeter just check the wiring as you go. Personally, I reckon wire is wire. You can use the push back stuff if you like but really the only advantage is ease of use, not any mystical properties. That being said, as stated above by someone (sorry, I forgot who) check for any single strands that may be shorting between points. They can be very fine ,almost invisible. Let us know how you go!
