Thread: LP 1 Beach Baby

  1. #1
Well I received the kit a couple of weeks ago before having an operation and now that I am in the rehab stages have decided to start the build. Just to keep everything sane.
This one is going to called Beach Baby to keep with the Ocean Child theme. Planning a strong yellow stain for the front with a deep red mahogany for the back sides and neck.
Has anyone used a product called Shellawax to finish a guitar? If so would be really interested in your comments.

Hope you're recovering okay buddy. Discectomy is a pretty serious operation.

Take it easy on the sanding!

Looks like you scored an awesome body though

Howdy Denis, hope you are recovering well after the operation. As Nick says take it easy sanding !
Sounds like an awesome plan yellow top and red/mahogany sides/back. Great kit for your second build. Fair bit more soldering on this kit but sure that won't be a problem.
Look forward to seeing the Beach baby progress !

    Heres to a speedy recovery!

As for Shellawax, i personally would steer clear of it as a guitar finish...

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

    Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

@Dingobass what would you suggest? I am looking for a deep gloss finish.

All the best on the recovery buddy, I couldn't think of anything more therapeutic than puttin' a guitar together to heal the body and mind. Get well soon!

Glad your on the mend Denis. What better way to convalesce than a therapeutic guitar build. Take care man, looking forward to seeing another quality guitar evolve from your floating cave.

I think DB would be recommending DingoTone unfortunately he keeps taunting us with it and it's not generally available just yet. That said, deep gloss can be achieved in a couple of ways - check out guitars by robin where he's had a couple of stunning glossy guitars using TruOil, or Jarrod who has used spray on poly's to get a great effect. Bargeloob's LP was perty glossy as well, so check out his build diary. The three of those guys have had some of the glossier guitars I've seen recently...
