Thread: Tjilpi - Old fella - LP-1M

    Coming Soon!!

Well, after securing my next project on the bench with Adam this evening I can start the planning and technique practicing.

It will be named Tjilpi (pronounced Chilpi) - Old fella. Named after my Dad. Strong, warm and a bit rough every now and again. He was also given that name by the locals in Alice Springs and is quite fitting for him and the work he has done.

Attached below are pics of how I want it to look like, or something close.

More questions on a few colour techniques to follow.

I would like to close with how great the support is from Adam and the crew, I have had this guitar on lay bye for a few months now, and Adam has been patient with my payments and my requests.

    Top job lads!

Good to see you at it again Kane. Can't wait to see what you come up with this time.

    Nice one Kane
I really dig tribute builds, there have been a few and the love for the person they are attributed to has shown in the quality of the build.
I am certain this build will be the same

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

    Hi Pablo,
Things have been rather busy. New job this year, kids are of an age that requires plenty of time, $$$$ hard to come at (for guitars anyway). Busy with visitors. Did have my wife's grandfather turn up a few weeks ago now, he helped me setup my router and secured it to my bench in such a way (upside down) that I now have a table. Awesome setup for some scratch builds later in the year.

    Stan, DB,
I figure I have plenty of time to prep this one prior to spring. Being better temperatures for spraying I don't need to rush this one. I have also seen plenty of the standard red bursts but like the desert burst better. Now I just need to practice a bit to get some spraying skills and wind some pickups to match in tone.

    Time will tell.

    Wokks,

Never really left building, was just in-between projects. Was always tinkering in the background trying to get setup for scratch builds. Just beginning to make some templates.
Also have been playing a bit as well which doesn't usually happen when there is a build on. Have just picked up a 2nd hand Zoom g2 u1 that I have been adjusting. So hopefully you may enjoy an updated recording on "true Rose".

Here is a shot from 'G' direct on how they do desert burst. My dilemma is which sequence to go with. Do I stain first, then rub it back for some depth, clear coat to seal it then start spraying my tinted lacquer with a clear coat in between colours? Do I just stain the gold/amber and fill in with brown tinted lacquer over the top. Decisions and techniques to trial. Not black dye on this one, after the standard subtle maple pop.
