Hi all, my names Ed. I just joined up to leech some knowledge off you lovely people.

Im about to build an RC4 kit I bought from Pitbull (Rickenbacker bass). This is my 2nd build, earlier this year I finished an LP. Heres a couple pics of my finished LP

Basically, I had a go at doing a stained finish with woodgrain still visible/etc, it didnt work because I used some crap varnish from paint shop. I tried to sand the stuff off then went through the veneer.... I snapped and painted it instead. This time I want to get it right.

I'll make a thread for the RC4 build. I hope to get it built over the next week or so.

    Welcome Ed!
The RC-4 looks like a great kit. It's at the top of my TODO list as well. I'm looking forward to reading about your build!

    Cheers,
    Gav

Hey Ed. Welcome to the forum. Digging the silverburst. A week is certainly an ambitious time frame. I'm also building an RC-4 and by this time next week I might have decided how I'm finishing the thing.

Don't rush. If you want to get it right, give your project room to breathe and your finish time to cure.

Ed - welcome along - seems there's a cruë building RC-4's at the moment! Agree with the comments above - take your time - all finishes - acrylic, stains, shelacs, etc, etc, etc take time to cure and harden properly. After all - you're going to have it for a while - enjoy the process!

As for the LP - nice silverburst! BTW - is there some kinda piezo going on with the bridge?

Cheers guys, and the week aim isnt really thought out. I rushed the last one and made a right cock up of it. I wanna cracking on this, but it wont be rushed.

That wire on the LP is a ground I added. There was no spot for it with the kit I bought (not a pitbull kit) and my limited knowledge convinced me it was needed to ground the strings. That whole build was a bit of a rush job, but it plays damn nice regardless.

My aim to have quite alot of guitars one day, so instead of going back and trying to perfect that one, I'll probably keep it as is for historical purposes and just build another better one.

    Welcome to the forum Ed,
the LP silver burst looks great. If you can remove the bush for the bridge all you need is a long drill bit 3 or 4mm diameter to drill a hole to the control cavity and that will hide the earth wire.
Good luck with the RC-4, I recommend doing a mock build early to make sure it fits together well, check the tuner fixing screw holes line up ok on the headstock.
As others have said don't rush the build and you will end up with an excellent bass !
