SG 1 Takes Shape slowly

Hi again,
Well the body is now done and I am about to wire the guitar up and set it up.
Scratch plate with veneer was ruined in a sort of " over heating " accident in the wall oven so I've ordered another and will veneer it when ready.
No other issues except I am working more that building guitars so time is at a premium.

BTW The next one is on order......335 style with gold fittings. No colour on this one as such but I will do something with the headstock ( or pay DB to do it for me ) :P

Put the strings on last night, tuned it and set the intonation and string play height etc. Wow ! this will be good through my VOX me thinks.
Hint to all new builders. Spend as much time as you can getting the neck set correct and remember the neck will bend with string tension.

Which is why you have a truss rod in these guitars to stabilise the neck!

Gavin mentioned the truss rod on these great kit guitars. My advice from amateurville house here in Balmain is : Leave the bl ** dy thing alone unless you are a luthier. Once the first stress is placed on the neck by the string tension it should stay there. I have seen the result of bendy necks syndrome when visiting my guitar repair mates in Annandale. Not a pretty look.
Tomorrow I have off so it's time to heat up the soldering iron, take the back off my PBG LP and copy the wiring loom. As the Meerkat says on TV " Simples " , squeak .

Truss rods aren't that scary. I was always told to leave them alone, but if you are careful and don't go too far, too fast, they're really easy. A set of feeler gauges helps too.

"Righty tighty, lefty loosey' is the rhyme to remember with truss rods. If you haven't made sure your truss rod is tight then don't bother with levelling the fretboard as it will be out anyway.

Strings are on. Plugged in and .....booom what a great sound.
The pickups are not from the kit however and the strings are Ernie Bull.

Scratch plate and new headstock logo and we are on to the 335 style.
