    hi guys,

I would like a little advice about the rosewood fretboard on my ST-1. I am doing the neck in Vintage Amber neck finish with gloss top coat. What do you guys reckon about a few coats of the clear gloss on the rosewood fretboard itself? I have a Rickenbacker 360 and it seems to have a clear coat on the fretboard. Also, I would assume that on maple fretboards the neck finish goes over everthing. So, what is the go with rosewood tops?

    All advice greatly appreciated!

    cheers,
    Gavin.

You will slow the action on the fingerboard so I would not do it. If you want a rich finish use Dr Ducks Axe Wax.

    Hi.
With reference to Gavin's post (gavinturner not gavin1393) about the coating on his 360 fretboard. I have a 77 custom Tele with a varnished/lacquered maple fretboard and it is really fast. So I'm curious as to what the coating might be because I have had the same thoughts as Gavin(turner).

My recollection is that it was a very thin coating of nitro.....

So probably nitro glycerin, making it explosively fast then, yeah?

Had to be, because even in those days DB was running around with his fret removal pliers and his tray full of snake oil!
