Hey guys, i am planning out some customs, mainly my very first build which I plan on starting soon (YAY ME!!), and i always see there's both chrome and nickel parts, some parts have only chrome, and some only have nickel finishes, what are the differences in the 2 finishes?

Also, what other good guitar part stores are there other than StewMac, Guitar Electronics and Realtone Music?

    Cheers,
    Pest

my only experience is from cars in this regard, but nickle plate is harder wearing and a better product than chrome. Chrome tends to look a bit "brighter" though, for want of a better description.

As long as the quality is OK, you shouldn't have any worries with chrome though, there's not a lot in it.

Either will be no good if they haven't been applied well, both will wear well if they have, so many variables, like thickness of plate etc.

All things being equal, nickle has the upper hand IMO.

I have no idea if there are conduction or musical property differences though.

    hey Pest,

There is also Guitar Fetish (GFS). I'm thinking of using one of their vibrato units on my upcoming ES175.
Anyway, whetever you choose, good luck with the build!

    cheers,
    Gavin.

Nickel hardware tarnishes very easily compared to chrome.
