Thread: Andys 1st build - the mighty LP-1

  1. #1
Well here she is guys, my very first build.
I'm really happy with it...turned out pretty much how i had hoped it would.

Wiped on the amber stain, sprayed a couple of coats of clear, then added red dye to clear lacquer to do the sunburst.
Cut and polished to obtain the glassy finish.
I know lacquer is a bit of a naughty word around here, but I have a lot of experience with paint and spraying,
and being my first build, went with what I felt confident with.
The only changes are the kluson style tuners, orange drop caps and truss rod cover.

I have learnt so much about guitars doing this build....not to mention patience !!
It's amazing how proud you feel when you first plug it in and start strumming.
Just the intonation to go....but happy with how she sounds already.

Thanks also to Gav and Scott for helping me out with my wiring issues.

Thanks Dan....was looking for somewhere to grab the photos, took it out into the sunlight and it just glowed.

Here's a closer shot of the headstock.

No complaints about this one despite the dreaded 'N4nitro' word! Really good job!

Awesome work Andy - truly a beautiful LP. The flame maple top really pops with that amber dye. Which brand did you use?

    Cheers,
    Gavin.

Geez that looks mint! That sunburst is very subtle - very nicely done!
I too am still rather attached to the traditional gloss finish like on the guitars I've grown up with but I like the results the Wudtone gives so I might have to one day pick your brain about the process you went through (we'll have to talk in code or something in a secret thread for those who want to know)

Anyway, great work for a first build especially on a guitar with a curved top/cap and binding! (I chickened out with a slab of Telecaster for my first )
