Thread: What paint?

  1. #1
I would like to paint the headstock black on my 335 kit, what paint would you guys recommend?

I have already given it a couple of coats of colouless neck finish, will that effect the paint in any way?

    Thanks

    Probably....

You have probably already sealed the neck with the colourless finish...you will have to paint 'over' this sealer in order to get the black colour. Unless you sand back where you have painted it will not stain the wood. However, this assumes that you are looking for the stained wood appearance. If you are looking for a solid cover you should be able to spray over the Wudtone as long as it is with another solvent it should melt into your finish.

Im not really concerned with the stained look, i just want to paint it. I can sand it back if need be.

Is there a particular type of paint that would do the job? Water based? etc etc

I would get the Wudtone off first.
You should be able to get a primer and black rattle can from any decent auto spares shop.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....
