Ok. I've ordered a kit. I've been wanting to make a guitar since I started playing as a teenager and I finally convinced the "boss" to let me do it - as a 43rd birthday present to myself. Lurking around this community message board for a few weeks finally convinced me that Pitbull was the way to go, as there is a great knowledge base here that is willing to help if I get in trouble.

I've decided on the TL-1TB as I find Tele's suit me best and I haven't had a guitar with a tremelo for 4 or 5 years. I originally considered to double cutaway with the jazzmaster style tremelo, but the volume and tone knobs are is a strange place, and the Tele was a bit cheaper.

To work my way up to doing this I've built a cigar box guitar and a lapsteel over the last year, but they were both fretless, so I'm a bit nervous about that aspect of the build. In the end I'm just hoping to get a decent, playable guitar.

    Current:
    GTH-1

    Completed:
    AST-1FB
First Act ME276 (resurrected curb-side find)
    ES-5V
    Scratchie lapsteel
    Custom ST-1 12 String
    JBA-4
    TL-1TB
    Scratch Lapsteel
    Meinl DIY Cajon
    Cigar Box lap steel

    Wishing:
    Baritone
Open D/Standard Double 6 twin neck

    Hello! Welcome.

I've got absolutely no wood-working skills, much to the disgust of my father and brother, but I ended up with something I'm very happy with. You've made a good choice.

Just take your time, and resist the temptation to take short cuts. I took a teeney-tiny one while I was painting my headstock and messed up one fret.

    Hey fretworn,
can you please post a photo of your cigar box guitar and lap steel ? that's where I started building cigar box guitars, was great fun and a good introduction to guitar building.
Sure you will find the TL-1TB pretty straight forward to build

    best of luck

    cheers Wokka

    Nice.

I'd post a pic of my first lap steel, but I'm easily embarrassed.

Love the bolt bridge on the cigar box too.

The nut is the threaded end that I cut off the bolt. (That could be really confusing.)
