Thread: My Scratch built 52 Telecaster

  1. #1
    Hi Peoples
    I thought I should start a build thread,as I am going to scratch build a '52 Telecaster.As I have obtained some nice wood to do this.
    The body is getting glued and cut out soon,as I have given the timber to a forum member to do this for me(which I really appreciate).
    This is going to be a dedication guitar for a really good mate as his dad has passed away last year and he was going to build something aswell.Anyway I have included a pic of the timber.I am building 2 guitars.
    This is for my guitar;

    Hey Bundy, that's some sweet looking chunks of tree you got there buddy.

    This is going to be a thread worth following....

    Oh, and a heads up, Adam has a real thing for Teles so make sure he doesn’t get his sweaty hands on it 'cause it will end up hanging on his wall, alongside all the Teles I have built..... 8O

    There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

    The timber is 27 yr old swamp ash..It was given to me by a good mate,who's Dad passed last year,he was going to build a guitar aswell.He kept it laying flat in an almost no humidity room.1 piece as a dedication guitar and the other for me...I will let the forum member say they did the cutting and glueing if they wish...

    cool thats amazing 27yo swamp ash, you better take DB's advice and take your time, can't replace that in a hurry !

    so what colours you got planned for each axe ? wudtone ? The grain would look awesome under a wudtone finish.

    where are you sourcing the neck ? no doubt most hardware from stewmac

    The body with no quilted centre will be done in either Saffron wudtone or a honey colour.The body with the quilted centre will be a burst finish,only because of the outer pieces.most of the hardware is genuine Fender parts..the neck for the wudtone body is StewMac.i have tried to source an original neck for the quilted body though it is hard or overpriced.
