One of the first things I said: A brush??? Really???

I'm sure a cloth could do the job...

I thought a cloth would be fine too, until I used a brush.

With the neck finish it is better to use a brush as you will need to get more finish on to get the colour.

Reason being the Wudtone won't penetrate Rock Maple as it is a very dense timber.
This is the one time when more is better!

I used a Taklon brush, available from any art supply shop.
Clean up in gum turpentine and all is good!
