I have read mixed reports from the StewMac site but I would seriously give them a go. I guess it is important to learn how they work first, before committing to them. But the concept is sound, and Steinberger has rarely made dodgy equipment. I think they would be perfect on a Firebird... Wish they made them for bass...

I have a set of these in my sweaty hands.... And yes, they are good, just as you would expect from Ned Steinberger!Quote from Bass Guy on March 17, 2013, 19:10

Can't wait to start my next scratch build to put them on.
The people that have had dramas with these excellent tuners have not read the instructions properly.
Hmmm. For Bass...... That would be nice.... Time to write to Mr Steinberger and ask if there are any plans to do so.....
Okay, I don't get it. How do these things work? Are they 1:1? Surely that would make tuning a nightmare.

They are something like 40:1.......Quote from pablopepper on March 18, 2013, 18:00

You wind the top thumb screw out until you can see the hole through the shaft, slip the string through then tighten the thumb screw down.
Then you tune by turning the knurled knobby bit on the underside.
So completely backwards to how I thought. Thanks!Quote from dingobass on March 18, 2013, 19:35

Toyed with the idea of these for another special project.
Then I saw the price - are they REALLY $89.00 each 8O
Bugger me, for the price of six of these I'd rather buy FIVE ST-1 kits!
