Hi all, this is the build diary of my first ever bass kit. I had been eyeing off the MMB-5 kit for quite some time and finally decided to make the purchase, which arrived today.
However whilst completing the mock build this afternoon I noticed an issue. The tone pot seems to have had part of it snap off (see image). Along with this, whilst plugging into the output jack with a guitar lead (one that I've used on both my current basses for yonks without issue) the metal stem (not sure what to call it) snapped cleanly off the jack.
I presume you mean the green blobby thing, which is the capacitor for the tone circuit, appears to have been snapped off where it should be soldered to the potentiometer rear.
And the tip connection for the jack socket shouldn't have just broken off like that.
Both items indicate that the plate has suffered quite a severe blow before you received it. One or more pots may also be damaged inside, which you won't know until you wire it all up.
You could replace the jack socket with a higher quality unit (I recommend Pure Tone jack sockets), and you may be able to resolder the capacitor (or a replacement capacitor as that one may have suffered mechanical damage) to the rear of the pot. But the best thing to do would be to email Pit Bull and ask for a replacement plate to be sent out to you.
