Farnzie before you think you are ready to stain rub a damp cloth over the whole body and hold it in good light you should be able to see if you got all the machine marks out. Often as you found out you don't see the machine marks till a coat of stain goes on !
    Current Builds and status
scratch end grain pine tele - first clear coat on !
    JBA-4 - assembled - final tweaks
Telemonster double scale tele - finish tobacco burst on body and sand neck

    Completed builds
scratch oak.rose gum Jazzmaster - assembled needs setup
    MK-2 Mosrite - assembled - play in
Ash tele with Baritone neck - neck pup wiring tweaks and play in

I usually go to 400 grit but I imagine that is going a bit overboard. But I'm a bit anal that way. Whatever grit you go to make sure that you don't start to polish the wood as it will stop the stain from taking evenly.

    Edit: Darn ninja'd by Warren.
